On the second day, I mapped out my metro route to the State Department. It takes me ten minutes to walk to Union Station, on the metro I switch lines once, and, then, I walk about 10-15 minutes from the GWU/Foggy Bottom metro stop to the State Department. It's near the Institute of Peace and the Lincoln Memorial is visible from the State Department as is the Vietnam Wall and reflecting pool. I think it will likely take me about 40 minutes to get to the State Department.
After peeking through the State Department's windows, I walked to the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Wall, and the White House. I could see Michelle Obama's vegetable garden from the fence! That was neat-o.
Then, once that was all done, I took a long walk back to the hotel and passed several federal buildings-- EPA, Federal Reserve, and one other that escapes me at the moment.
