So, the food where I am staying leaves something to be desired.
Breakfast and dinner are included in the cost of rent. There is a small "lunchroom" that reminds me of those in nursing homes in that there is some cheer spread about (a St. Patrick's Day banner, plastic flowers on the table) and a clinical, sterile feeling that kills the appetite.
I'm not going to knock breakfast. It makes me happy. Three cereal choices, fresh fruit, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, and more. I've been grabbing a banana and apple and taking it to work. Signs with a frownie face are posted on walls saying not to take food out of the cafeteria, but I stow away some fruit and have it for a snack or lunch later. I've been doing that with the dessert that is served at dinner. I shoved cookies into my purse tonight. For those who are Golden Girls fans, shoving food in my handbag reminded me of Sophia Petrillo, Dorothy's mother. I think the show had a running joke about her having food in her purse.
I'm digressing. Returning to the menu. . .
I forced down veggie lasagna last night. Tonight there was some improvement with a veggie quesadilla with refried beans and bellpeppers. The cookies were the star of tonight's meal, though.
I'm only sharing this for those foodies out there. You know who you are. Those of you who watch FoodTV or Food Network (whichever).
A meal is a meal so this is the last of my grumbling. As long as I'm getting my nourishment, I shouldn't complain.
For those who have a favorite restaurant in DC, let me know. If I decide to treat myself to dinner, I just might go there.
Go to any restaurant in Adam's Morgan... If I remember correctly there are good ones there.
ReplyDeleteDoes the food remind you at all of public school cafeteria food?
